“Use the smallest word that does the job.” -E.B. White

Alexandra Zabinski

Alex specializes in legal writing. She (passionately) hates long, disorganized legal briefs.  As a writer, she combines succinct storytelling with spot-on legal research, resulting in briefs that judges (and arbitrators and mediators) actually want to read. Her writing has netted numerous wins at the trial and appellate level.

When not writing, Alex focuses her practice on insurance coverage, construction defects, and general liability defense. She’s happiest when unraveling a complex insurance policy (it’s just a flow chart in legalese!). Clients consistently appreciate her ability to translate complex legal issues—including coverage issues—into plain English. Colleagues have consistently recognized her outstanding legal acumen and writing skills.

Before joining McCollum Crowley, Alex clerked full-time at a general-practice firm in St. Paul and attended law school by night. The blend of classroom and real-world experience gave her a head start in navigating the practice of law. Before law school, Alex taught English to high schoolers in Nantes, France; served as a French/English translator for a refugee center; and supported research teams at a Hennepin County hospital.

In her spare time, Alex enjoys knitting, reading, and walking in St. Paul’s many historic neighborhoods. Her lifelong quests are for stronger coffee and someone to appreciate her Pickwick Papers references.
