Ethical, Competent, and Credible Forensic Mental Health Testimony: Expert witnesses play a vital role in our legal system. Mental health professionals offering expert testimony serve an especially important role because they provide specialized information necessary for judicious decision-making. However, competent expert witness testimony starts before ever entering the courtroom. This workshop will focus on the ethics of forensic report writing and practice, the role of an expert witness, an overview of the factors and elements related to credible and competent testimony, and will provide recommendations for those working within this psycho-legal setting.
